This week I celebrate my birthday. Well, not the day my mother Betsey delivered me in 1969 (thanks again, Mom—well done!), but rather, November 21, 2019, the day 5 years ago when I was blessed to experience a spiritual awakening in Jamaica. I guess I’d call it my “Rebirth Day.” And what an incredible 5 years it's been!
I recently saw a clip of Neil deGrasse Tyson, one of my favorite celebrity astrophysicists. (When I want my brain to really hurt, I watch Neil talk about our universe.) He said that the odds of any one of us being alive are something like 10 to the 30th power. That's like a billion…trillion…trillion! And yet, how many of us can fully appreciate the magic and miracle of just being alive? I sure didn't before my trip to Jamaica, when I had an epiphany that I wanted to do what I could to make psychedelic healing available to others in need. But I do now.
On my 5th Rebirth Day, I’m feeling especially grateful. I’m celebrating the fact that HHCM, launched only a year ago, is flourishing. I’m also celebrating the fact that all of us—our small leadership team at HHCM along with you, our partners, allies, and supporters—are blessed with the opportunity to collectively help make this seemingly chaotic and dark world a little bit better, a little bit brighter, and a little bit more loving. One traumatized person at a time.
In peace and healing,
Robert
